New in 2020, the EJP Advocacy team seeks to promote equal justice values by utilising volunteers’ research and communication skills to advocate for change for a variety of causes. The team works with practitioners, interest groups, and community groups who share the Equal Justice Project's values and goals.

Students in the Advocacy team gain practical experience in effective advocacy, engaging in research, constructing a case for change, and presenting that case through an effective platform. Our volunteers are law students who have demonstrated a capacity for high quality advocacy and a passion for using their skills to promote equal justice.

This year, we have two projects running within the Advocacy Team:

Refugee Rights: this project will focus on researching and advocating for the rights of asylum seekers.

If you are interested in engaging the EJP Advocacy team for work, or if you have any enquiries relating to the Advocacy team, please contact Arianna Bacic and Ella Rose Steven at advocacy@equaljusticeproject.co.nz.

Climate Change: This project, run in conjunction with the Waitematā Low Carbon Network, will target local responses to climate change, with a focus on Auckland Council and various Council-Controlled Organisations.

Lecture with the waitemata low carbon network:

If you’re interested in seeing what Advocacy has been working on and who we’ve been working with - we’ve created a small lecture that encapsulates the role of local government in Auckland Council and climate change and explains what we have been doing to advocate for climate action.
