The Alliance team is EJP’s only internally focused team. Alliance is an extremely important part of the Equal Justice Project, as EJP’s goals can only be achieved if our next generation of legal professionals are representative of the diverse communities of Aotearoa. Alliance’s aim is to ensure that University of Auckland’s Law School is equitable so that our students can successfully serve and stand up for those underrepresented in our community.
In 2026, we are introducing “law after hours”, a discussion series. In each session, we invite legal professionals in the social justice field to share their experiences and passions. We hope to create a collaborative and inclusive environment by making the event more casual than a usual panel. This is important for the Alliance team’s purpose because too often, the pathway into social justice law feels unclear or out of reach. By making these conversations accessible, we’re breaking down those barriers, ensuring that knowledge and mentorship are not limited to those who already have connections in the field. We want every student, no matter their background, to see that a career in social justice law is possible and, more importantly, needed.
